One of my favorite television shows of all time is Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes. The story is set in fictional “Portwenn,” which is actually Port Isaac, Cornwall. The good doc works as a general practitioner and has a fear of blood! Yes, there’s humor, but also suspense, friendship, romance, and drama. The show began in 2004, provides 9 seasons (I’m hoping for more) and can be viewed on Acorn, Hulu (select seasons), and Amazon.
I caught wind of a heartwarming video put out by the cast and crew during this challenging time. If you’re a Doc Martin fan, I think you’ll love it! If you haven’t already met these quirky characters, you might want to give this show a try!
Something I wasn’t aware of when I first saw this charming video was that the creator of Doc Martin, Dominic Minghella, was recently very ill and hospitalized with symptoms of coronavirus. Happily, he has recovered.

Cornwall seems like a beautiful place!

It is for sure, visited by many holiday makers in normal times. We love it and did once visit Port Isaac on a sunny day and it is as lovely as it looks on the screen.

Oh! I certainly envy you for that, Janet:) I’ve only visited in my dreams…

What a great look at all these beloved characters! That show is also one of my faves, and I thought Martin looked very nice with his more relaxed hairstyle! Thanks for sharing this with us.

You’re so welcome, Terri! I like his hair this way, too, although it may not be as close a match for Doc Martin’s buttoned-down personality:)

Yes, do try it, Beth! I’m wondering if his illness might have been a motivator for the video. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I love it too, as well as other works about Cornwall. Are we Cornwall-ophiles? 🙂 For the more dramatic there are also the Winston Graham Poldark novels and the Masterpiece television show. Several of Daphne du Maurier novels are set in Cornwall. Such a beautiful, windswept, inspiring environment. Doc Martin is a perfectly “grumpy” foil. In the real world we find it difficult to deal with “curmudgeons” yet isn’t that the appeal of the show; that his fellow villagers find ways to deal with him despite his understandable lack of social skills? Fun post, Becky! I needed some laughter.

Yes, I love the setting so much, Mary Jo! I agree, that’s what we like about Doc Martin, and his personality has evolved somewhat over time, with help from his friends and loved ones. I sure hope they make another season…

Thank you for sharing the video. I LOVE Doc Martin and have watched EVERY episode so far as well as Martin Clune’s documentaries on animals. It’s one of my favorite series ever. I wish they would keep going but I’m sure they are bored with it by now.

Marlene, I’m so happy to discover that you like this series, too! I’ve watched many of the eps multiple times! I don’t think another season has been announced, but the last one sure ended with many things left up-in-the-air. Surely they’d want to wrap everything up, at least?!

I’ve not see the show – I don’t watch television (very much) – but I’m pleased you have a positive focus at a time when such might be hard to come by 😊

Hi Helen, I don’t watch very many shows, either; sometimes a day goes by with me only using the TV to access Pandora radio. But this program is one that can always lift my spirits!

I have been there, more than once. First time as a child on a Cornish holiday and then more recently but before the fame and traffic of “Doc Martin”. There wasn’t much there. Bought a lovely little print at a studio at the top of the street. Unfortunately it’s in another place right now

I always thought the good doctor provided a good role model for any administrator who wanted to be unfiltered.

I think see Doc Martin in the TV listings on PBS, but have never seen it. I’ll take a look. And Cornwall … well, I fell in love with Cornwall with Poldark! (And, of course, Poldark himself. 🙂 )
