Although I find little to like about Texas weather, I do enjoy the milder winters and spring’s early arrival. Over the weekend, I took these pics on several of my walks. I even started some Texas wildflower seeds in pots on my balcony this week to try my luck.
Speaking of growing things, my short children’s story, “Magic in the Garden,” was recently published at Tebok Kai. Almost five years ago, I wrote a post about William Donahey’s Teenie Weenie characters. And I must admit, I had those miniature beings in mind when I wrote this story!

Congratulations on the publication of your story,, Becky! I enjoyed reading it. The tiny people saved the day!

I’ve never heard of teenie weenies and think it’s so cool your dad told you those stories. I loved yours and envied Lynette for playing taxi driver for them!
I also envy your spring bloo.s although they probably wouldn’t survive here in early March. Happy spring! 😊

Our rhubarb is starting to poke out of the soil so we have a little color. 🙂

Oh, I remember the years that I had rhubarb in my garden. What a sight to see that peeking out of the dirt:)

What a nice story, Becky. I love that it’s about a kid who learns about gardening.

It seems that gardens have shown up in quite a few of my children’s stories, Audrey. I realize now how much I loved our gardens as a kid:) Thanks for reading!

Yes, but I hear from my sister that the Chicago area has been getting some early warm days! Thanks, Gigi!

We are. I think we hit 70 the other day. It was incredible, but now we’re back to the high 30s and a very low 40 during the day but that’s okay. No snow and we can live with that, but it’s too early to do anything in the yard. Having those few nice days was like a dream come true. :)

What an enchanting story, Becky! I enjoyed the child’s point of view and the lessons about pollinators and helping out woven in. My novel (WIP) has a child who is a pollinator because of the catastrophic loss of the natural ones – I can’t help going to the dark side but am always searching for hope. I admire your way of keeping on the bright side, while having real drama in the story – a child’s worries – and the magic of the little people helping out. And the magic of growing food from little plants and seeds. Lovely. I’m glad you can enjoy the Texas climate at the moment and hope all your wildflowers flourish. Congratulations! 👏👏👏

I find that “worry” is a common theme in my stories…even those for children. But at least in the kids’ stories, things can always work out:) Thank you so much for your insights and observations, Maria. Your WIP sounds very intriguing. I look forward to learning more about that!

Congratulations on your story’s publication. Here in south Georgia, maybe on your latitude, nothing is in bloom yet. We’ve had lots of rain, though.

That was a fun story. I don’t garden, but it would be great to find some tiny people to help with housework! I’ll be interested to hear how your flowers do. I don’t have enough sun on my patio to grow my favorite flowers, but I might try some this year that are designed for a shade garden. Spring’s coming so quickly now, it’s going to be hard to keep up with it all!

Kind of you to say so, Linda! You may not garden, but you certainly know a lot about what grows out there in nature:) I bet that would be fun to try some shade garden plants.

How did the Texas wildflowers grow?

I’ve tried Texas wildflower seeds in containers twice, now. I get lots of greenery but no blooms. Although it gets very warm out there, the direct sun time is rather short each day. Maybe it’s not enough for them? It was worth a try:)
