Elections offer parents the opportunity to educate their kids about the U.S. democratic process, and this one is no exception. If you’re struggling with how to dive into the topic with your children, let books be your guide.

  6. My parents had one other way to teach me about the importance of voting. From the time I was ten years old, my father took me with him to vote. I would dress in my best clothes, we would go to the polls, and then I would go back to school. They’d send a note to the teacher ahead of time, so she would know why I was missing from the classroom.

  8. So cool! My kiddo gets to vote for the first time this year. The state of Washington always does mail-in ballots, which is kind of nice. We can sit together as a family and discuss our ballots together–or not–if we want. Cheers!

  9. I love this blog post AND I love the comments afterwards. I mailed in my ballot last week (and in MA we have a web site we can log onto and check to make sure it has been received!) I like the idea of dressing up in nice clothes (to show respect for the process) and bringing one’s child with one to vote.

  11. Wherever we live and whatever our political beliefs, it’s important to be informed and to vote so that we’re represented by people who share at least some of our values. The earlier we learn about the better, I think.

    I think the US votes are still being counted? I sincerely hope the result is the best one for your country and the rest of the world, and that it’s the start of people coming back together.

  12. I am so sorry I missed this before the election. This year has proved to be more important than normal. So glad it seems to have (almost ) ended with the successful electoral college vote. I wonder what caused Mitch McConnel to finally acknowledge Joe Biden–the electoral college or Putin’s phone call to Biden.

  13. Love your evaluation–many of them are sorry excuses for elected officials. I’m proud of our judiciary system for doing the right thing at several levels and the integrity of our elected state officials in many states. I am much less impressed with many of our nationally elected/appointed grifters.
